CHARDON-- Their terror tunes have been heard across the globe -- but the spooky sounds from Midnight Syndicatehave all oozed from the brains of two Cleveland-area men.

Nearly two decades ago, Edward Douglas and Gavin Goszka teamed up to createMidnight Syndicate -- a gothic music company.

Theircreepy collaborationshaveechoed in movies, television shows, Hugh Hefner's Halloween parties at the Playboy Mansion, haunted attractions around the world, amusement parks, video gamesand even on "Monday Night Football."

Every fall, their CDs land in Halloween stores across the country for home haunters to set the eerie atmosphere for trick-or-treaters.

In 2010, Midnight Syndicate produced, directed and released "The Dead Matter," a full-length horror film with scenes shot at the famously creepy Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield.

This week, Midnight Syndicate unleashes their 16th CD -- "Monsters of Legend" -- a tribute to the classic Universal, Hammer and Euro horror films. The CD's cover art features officially licensed images from the Universal Studio vaults featuring Frankenstein's monster, the Wolfman and Dracula.

WKYC's Joe Cronauer is the first reporter ever inside Midnight Syndicate's studio in Chardonto see how the music is made.

"Our goal on this album is to make you feel like you've entered one of those classic horror films, that you are in a world where any one of the Universal Studios' monsters could be right around the corner," Douglas says.

To celebrate the new CD, Midnight Syndicate is hosting a world premiere party on Thursday, July 18 at the Boneyard in Mayfield Heights (5900 Mayfield Road). All ages are invited to this free event, which is open to the public.

"We've called on some of our acting and design friends from the haunted house industry to help create a 'suitable listening environment' for this event," Douglas says. "It should be fun."

Guests at the "Monsters of Legend" premiere party will be able to meet Douglas and Goszka, listen to the new CD and learn about how the dastardly duo created the creepy music.

Everybody is encouraged to come in costume and prizes will be given out to the best ones.

Since its creation in 1997, Midnight Syndicate has been based in Northeast Ohio -- and there's no place they'd rather be.

"I love Cleveland," Douglas says. "I do. I'm a huge Cleveland nut and where I go all around the country it just reinforces why this is such a great place to live."

Goszka, who lives in Willoughby, says the weather here is perfect, too.

"I don't think we'd be able to do this like in Florida or Southern California," he laughs. "It'd be too bright and sunny warm. We'd be dark? Gothic? I'm not feeling that! So it does help."

A few years back,AOL ranked the top 10 Halloween CDs -- and Midnight Syndicate claimed three of the those spots (third, fourth and eighth). Cleveland's own Midnight Syndicate is perched in three spots!

So the next time you run through a haunted house or watch a horror movie -- beware! There could be two composers from northeast Ohio lurking behind the music...

"Hopefully it'll be a bright and long future," Goszka says. "Or should I say dark and long future."
