Crews put out fire at Mentor Marsh.


MENTOR -- Two juveniles were taken into custody and now a 13-year-old has been arrested and charged with arson in connection with a fire at the Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve.

The fire was reported by a 911 caller about 12:41 p.m. Tuesday. Channel 3 talked to the man who made the call and he said he saw two kids run from the woods at the time of the fire.

The fire occurred at the north end of the marsh approximately 1,000 feet west of Woodridge Lane, near Forest Road, in the Mentor Headlands area.

Approximately 11 acres of the marsh burned. No evacuations were needed.

The fire was reported as contained just after 3 p.m. Fire crews remain on the site putting out hot spots.

Multiple departments were called in to assist with the fire.

The marsh encompasses 673 acres off Corduroy Road in Mentor.
