CLEVELAND -- As families put up and decorate their Christmas trees for the holiday season, fire officials are urging everyone to be fire safe.

Today, a demonstration was held at the Cleveland Fire Training Academy.

Western Reservuce Fire Museum president and Cleveland Fire Captain Roy Ziganti Jr., conducted the live burn demonstration.

Between 2006 and 2010, U.S. firefighters responded to an estimated annual average of 230 house fires that started with Christmas trees.

Electrical problems are blamed in 31% of home Christmas tree structure fires. A heat source placed too close to the Christmas tree is blamed in one of every five (18%) of these fires. Candles are blamed in 9% of home Christmas tree structure fires.
