FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- Sheriff's deputies arrested four Massillon men and a Hartville man who were allegedly planning on breaking into a drug dealer's home in Kent to steal his drugs, molly, money and LSD.

At 3:30 a.m. Dec. 5, deputies were checking several suspicious vehicles parked in the parking area of the Hike and Bike Trail located at Lake Rockwell Road and Brady Lake Road in Franklin Township.

Deputies encountered five men, four of whom were dressed in all-black, police-type tactical clothing and boots, and were in possession of 5 handguns, AR-15, nylon zip ties, knives, brass knuckles, duct tape, latex gloves, a tactical vest with "POLICE" on the front, a vest cover with "SWAT" screened on the front, law enforcement gun belts, masks, mace, black nylon bags and marijuana.

The AR-15 and two of the handguns were air-soft replicas, however they had the appearance of real firearms.

Deputies arrested Gary Thomas Thompson, 31; Charles Nicholas Shaffer, 25; Joseph Martin Ivanic-Cardenas, 22; Scott A McCleary, 28; all from Massillon, and Martin David Richardson, 25, of Hartville.

According to Sheriff David W. Doak, members of the Portage County Drug Task Force and Sheriff's Detectives investigated and learned that these men were allegedly going to break into a home at 1220 Lake Street in Kent and rob a drug dealer of his marijuana, LSD, Molly, and money.

Drug Task Force Detectives obtained a court-ordered search warrant for 1220 Lake Street, where Mark Jordon Santos, 23, lived.

Task Force Detectives, Sheriff's Detectives, Kent Police and DEA agents executed the search warrant during the late afternoon of Dec. 5. LSD, marijuana, mushrooms, and U.S. Currency were recovered.

Santos was not home at the time of the search and deputies have issued an arrest warrant for him.
