AKRON -- The roaring success of the Akron Zoo continued during the Halloween season thanks to the new Grizzly Ridge exhibit.

Zoo officials say this year's Boo at the Zoo event attracted a total of 23,353 guests during the eight days it was open.

That attendance makes 2013's Boo at the Zoo the second-most attended year in the Halloween-themed event's 25-year history.

The zoo fell just 1,481 of their all-time Boo at the Zoo record, which was set in 2010, when 24,834 people visited.

The event averages about 15,000 people per year.

This year's Boo at the Zoo ran October 12-13, 18-20 and 25-27.

The event is one of the area's largest trick-or-treating parties. It includes 12 themed treat stations that kids can trick-or-treat at while enjoying non-scary Halloween decorations amid the zoo's more than 700 animals.
