Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up. No, he's not leaving because of aliens, he's leaving because of the altitude.
A Colorado town's newest marshal told a community meeting last week that he was leaving the job after just five months. And no, he wasn't leaving because of a space alien attack.
He was leaving because he couldn't adjust to the 8,400-foot altitude.
Jim Matheney, a former police captain in a Detroit suburb who was hired in March, was overseeing five officers and one sergeant, according to the Boulder Daily Camera.
Matheney addressed the community at a recent town board meeting to respond to rumors that included his leaving because of an attack by aliens, said Town Administrator Alisha Reis.
She said he wanted to make it clear that he was only leaving for medical reasons
"He simply has not physically acclimated to the altitude," she said. "We really thought he was going to be a long term hire. He was really great. It's just a shame."
Commuting wasn't an option, she said, because Nederland requires the marshal to live within five miles of town.
And if you think that sounds a bit odd, wait until you hear about the town's annual festival.
Nederland is known for its Frozen Dead Guy Days festival, celebrating the corpse of a man who hoped to one day be revived.

You have already missed the 2014 festival but you can plan on attending the 2015 festival, which runs March 13-15.
So, what goes on at the FDGD? Well, there's LIVE free music all weekend, Coffin Racing, Ice Turkey Bowling, a Brain Freeze Contest, the Parade of Hearses and Snowy Beach Volleyball, just to name a few high points.

Back in the good old days, according to actress Cornelia Otis Skinner and Emily KImbrough's "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay," a fellow cast member wrote in my play program about "our unusual relationship." Believe me, I know unusual when I see it.
And people make fun of Chagrin Falls' Blossom Time Festival, the Bucyrus, Ohio Bratwurst Festival, the Roadkill Cook Off in Marlinton, West Va. and the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California.
