Riverside Rd. sees worst of flooding, water rescues and evacuations


VERMILION TOWNSHIP -- WKYC is on the scene as flooding in parts of Vermilion has led to several water rescues and evacuations.

Residents on Riverside Rd. have seen the worst flooding from the Vermilion River.

According to the Vermilion Fire department, they were called to assist a resident who was trapped in their home around 9:30 a.m. They used a boat to reach the flood victim.

While making the initial rescue, emergency workers heard more calls for help coming from nearby.

Altogether, rescuers pulled 5 adults, a child and 4 dogs from four different flooded homes.

Rushing water has overtaken some other roads in the area, as well.

Those who were rescued are staying with family members until they're able to return to their homes.
