According to the James Beard Foundation, two Cleveland restaurants have been recognized for excellence.
Chef Jonathon Sawyer, of the Greenhouse Tavern, is one of five James Beard Foundation finalists for Best Chef in the Great Lakes region. Sawyer is up against Andrew Zimmerman, chef at Sepia in Chicago; Dave Beran, Next, Chicago; Curtis Duffy, Grace, Chicago; and Paul Virant, Vie Restaurant, Western Springs, Ill.
On Tuesday, JBF announced that Sokolowski's University Inn will be recognized as one of five "America's Classics" at the awards ceremony in May.
Chef Doug Katz, at Fire Food and Drink in Shaker Square, was among the semifinalists for the 2014 Great Lakes Best Chef award but did not make the final round.
The JBF awards will be announced May 5 Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York.
