Officers set up a perimeter and called in Parma K-9 Officer Felix to assist officers with searching for the man.
PARMA -- Parma Police have arrested a Cleveland man in connection with a weekend armed robbery that occurred Saturday in the parking lot of State House Apartments on State Road.
Police say they have arrested and charged Kordeya D. Watts II, 22, of Cleveland and he is being held in the Parma Jail on a charge of aggravated robbery.
On July 5, just before noon, police received a 911 call of a man with a gun in the area of 6900 State Road. Officers arrived and discovered that the man with the gun had just robbed two victims at gunpoint of their cell phones and a purse.
He was later identified as Watts. Watts was seen fleeing the area on foot. A vehicle that witnesses observed Watts driving prior to the robbery was located in the parking lot of 6900 State Road and was found to be reported stolen through the Cleveland Police Department.
While checking the area for Watts, Parma Police received a call from a resident in the 3100 block of Hetzel Drive who said a man just stole his Buick Lacrosse from the driveway of their residence and was driving away.
An officer in the area observed Watts operating the stolen Buick Lacrosse at the intersection of State Road and Dentzler Road. The officer pulled behind the Buick and Watts jumped out of the car and began running on foot into the back yards of the adjacent homes.
Officers set up a perimeter and called in Parma K-9 Officer Felix to assist officers with searching for Watts. K-9 Felix and his handler began tracking Watts in the residential area. A short time later, Watts was captured hiding behind a residence in the 7200 block of State Road.
Officers later recovered the stolen cell phones, purse and the handgun Watts used during the robbery.
Additional charges will be forthcoming after consultation with prosecutors.
