He and his girlfriend jumped off of the boat about 150 feet away from the shore, witnesses said.

CLEVELAND -- Authorities have identified the man whose body was recovered about 2:10 p.m. Monday in Lake Erie near Whiskey Island.

They say he is Hiawatha Kenyatti Jabori Rutland, 33, of New York.

The Cleveland Fire Department Dive team spotted a body around 2 p.m. Monday while searching the designated search area.

The body was taken by the Cuyahoga County medical examiner's office.

Multiple agencies searched the lake for hours Sunday night and Monday before seeing signs of the man witnesses say jumped off a boat and never made it to shore.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

He and his girlfriend jumped off of the boat about 150 feet away from the shore. His girlfriend made it to shore safely, but he began to struggle in the lake and called out for help, witnesses said.

A woman jumped in to rescue the man but nearly drowned before being pulled to safety herself. She was treated by EMS on shore.

Divers with the Cleveland fire department scanned the bottom of the lake while Coast Guard boats and helicopters scanned the surface. However with very low visibility and lots of debris in this area, the conditions were extremely challenging for divers.

Cleveland police, fire, and EMS, along with Ohio Water Craft and Coast Guard, searched for the man.
