Unit where the blaze started is a total loss

MENTOR -- A large fire broke out in a small commercial building that housed several medical-related businesses in Mentor.

A passerby noticed the fire shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Friday.

When crews arrived, they saw that the blaze had burned through the roof, and flames were reaching about 30 feet into the air, according to Mentor Fire Department.

The bulk of the fire damage was located in the building's middle unit, which housed Maryann's Family Hearing. According to fire records, that middle unit is a total loss.

On Saturday, the website of Maryann's Family Hearing has the following message posted:

"On Friday August 29th, we had a fire at our office. We want to let all of our clients know that everyone will receive any hearing aids that have been ordered. Check back on our website and on Facebook for updates. You may contact us with any questions at maryann@maryannsfamilyhearing.com Thank you, MaryAnn Bencin"

There was also smoke and fire damage to other units in the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
