WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP -- A severe crash in Lorain County has turned fatal. An Ashland University student was killed while 5 others remain in the hospital.

According to a press release from the university sent to students Saturday night, 21-year-old Andrew Keim died from his injuries. Keim was sitting in the back seat on the passenger side of the car involved.

The accident happened just after 8:00 p.m. Friday at the intersection of State Route 18 and Quarry Road.

Troopers say a Ford F250 carrying two people was headed west on State Route 18 at the time of the crash. A car headed north on Quarry Road failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the truck.

The driver of the truck, 56-year-old Mark Zacharias, and 55-year-old Elizabeth Zacharias were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the car, Madeline Humphrey, 20, and passengers, Paige Gorsuch, 21, Rose Sepesy, 21, and Andrew Keim, 21, were also taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

St John's Life Flight, Metro Life Flight, and University Life Flight all assisted in transporting victims from the scene.

Troopers have not yet determined if seat belts were in use or if alcohol played a role in causing the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
