Springfield Township Police said two boys tried to swim across the lake when one of them became distressed
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP -- A body was found as emergency crews resumed their search Wednesday morning for a missing 16-year-old boy on Springfield Lake for the evening.
At approximately 11:21 am, divers located and recovered the body of Camden Cole at a depth of approximately 10 feet, according to Springfield Township Police.
He has been removed from the lake and was taken to the Summit County Medical Examiner's office for a determination on the official cause of death.
"On behalf of all of us, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Cole family in this great time of sorrow. The prayers of the entire community go out to them, and to all of those touched by this terrible tragedy," police said, in a statement.
"Being that Camden was a student of Springfield High School, the school is currently making grief counseling available to anyone in the community who is interested. Counseling will be available this evening at 5 p.m. at the Lakeview Lighthouse Church, located at 1065 Kubler Trail in Akron"
At a news conference at 10 a.m. Wednesday, authorities identified the missing boy as Camden Cole and said they have yet to locate him.
Springfield Township police said two boys tried to swim to a buoy in the lake when one of them became distressed.
One of the boys was rescued.
According to police, the deepest point of Springfield Lake is 20 feet.
Swimming is not permitted from park areas that border the lake, but authorities cannot regulate people swimming from private property or boats in the lake. They believe the two boys swam from a private dock..
