Port of Cleveland seeks renewal levy.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY -- The Port of Cleveland asked voters to renew a .13 mill levy that provides a little more than $3 million a year to subsidize the Port of Cleveland's operations.

Voters approved the renewal by a margin of 65% to 35%.

Results: November 2013 Election

It's the smallest levy on the county ballot. The owner of a $200,000 home would keep paying just under $7 a year.

The Port is still smarting from a levy defeat earlier this year.

For years it's struggled to define its mission and connect with the public.

The levy voters defeated this year would have funded a pedestrian bridge and raised money for riverbank maintenance.

But voters rejected making lakefront development part of the port's agenda.

Issue 82 gets back to the port's core mission of handling imports and exports.

Weeks before the vote, the Port outlined a new Plan to offer the only direct container shipping to Europe from a Great Lakes port.
