Vote to help Sir Lancelot be named America's best mascot by USA Today High School Sports
Since his debut in 2013, Gilmour Academy's Sir Lancelot has been busy cheering on all of the school's student-athletes in hopes that his encouragement will help them achieve victory.
The past two weeks, those roles have been reversed, as GA's current students, alumni and other supporters have cast thousands of online votes in favor of the school's athletic nickname and Sir Lancelot in USA Today High School Sports' 2014 Best Mascot Contest.
After being crowned Ohio's top mascot by garnering more than 2,100 votes in the contest's first round, Sir Lancelot collected more than 24,450 votes in the following round to earn one of two wild-card spots in the contest's final round.
By qualifying for the contest's national round, GA will receive a banner recognizing the accomplishment.
Sir Lancelot is a week away from taking home bragging rights and a $2,000 donation to GA's athletic department, but last year's winner – the Centralia (Ill.) Orphans stand in the way.
Final-round voting is now underway. Fans may vote as often as they'd like and for as many of the 10 mascots as they want until the contest ends Friday.
In addition to the grand prize, the athletic departments of the schools that finish in second, third and fourth place will also be awarded monetary donations in differing denominations.
Represent Northeast Ohio and vote for the Gilmour Academy Lancers.
