YOKOHAMA, Japan - A United Nations climate panel has a major report due out tomorrow and one conclusion is that global warming could lead to hotter tempers and a chill in human relations.
The report, considered authoritative, is not saying climate change will cause violence in and of itself, but will be an added factor complicating and worsening existing global security problems, such as civil wars, strife between nations and refugees.
The report by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says fights over resources, like water and energy, hunger and extreme weather will all go into a potentially destabilizing mix.
That's a big change from seven years ago, when the summary didn't mention security issues. This one will because of advances in research.
The summary of the report is being finalized this weekend by the panel in Yokohama, Japan.
